With the success of Peerden we have decided to turn the Low Ratio Mod back on. In case some of you are unfamiliar with the checker, this is how it works. You have a grace of 2 Gigabytes which gives you time to reach an acceptable ratio of at least .75. IF when you hit a download total of 2 G and your ratio is .50 or below, you will be placed in the low ratio group. This will exclude you from downloading Peerden torrents until you return to a ratio of .75 or above. This can be done by seeding something you have a 100% completion rate on or uploading your own torrents for other to download. When uploading your own torrents please be sure to read the uploading rules located in the FAQ and to search the forum to make sure it hasn't already been posted. Duplicate torrents will be removed. Please remember that Premium members are excluded from the low ratio restrictions and enjoy unlimited torrent downloads on Peerden for their contribution.

The checker will be turned on probably by the end of the week so enjoy the last few days of free downloads. If you have a low ratio or are close to .50, please use this time to work on your ratio.

I have the low ratio checker running every 10 minutes. If for some reason your back above 0.75 and you are still blocked please make a new post or reply to a topic to update your stats.

if you click on your name it you can view your public profile and it will show your ratio there...
your ratio is how much you've uploaded compared to how much you have downloaded.

it shows that you have downloaded way more then you have uploaded. you should check out the faq for more info on ratios

isn't the ratio a bit brutal? even going back to the scene bbs days, the worst ratio enforced was 1:3 I personally think this whole ratio thing on torrent boards has gotten far to stringent.

This is a sharing community so why is it considered brutal to want something back?

ie. If nobody seeded to maintain a ratio of 1 or better then no-one could complete any of the torrents listed on the site, so why is it brutal to be asked if you are given something that you give it back?

Depends how you look at it jimbo. The ratio mod doesn't kick in until someone has a 0.50 ratio or below.

So in theory someone can download 220GB's of data while only uploading a little over 110GB's back to the community. Even the preferred minimum of a 0.75 ratio would only see them need to upload 165GB's.

That's a pretty huge upload deficit considering the average film is 700mb's, the average album is 75mb's and many programs are anything from a few kb's upto a few hundred mb's (with the occasional big GB monsters like Adobe CS)

And it would be down to all the other people to pick-up that slack
