Good luck with that bro. I caught my ring finger in the middle of a steel door frame and the matching door that went with it. The impact almost cracked my nail horizontally in half, luckily it did not. That was about a month and a half ago...still in the process of "losing" the nail. =\

Heres what it looks like today... The nail is almost completely black/blue and now the color is extending about 1/8" below my cuticle. Still in a lot of pain and haven't got much sleep.

you need to poke a hole in that puppy. easiest way is to take a hot needle and poke it through. should have done it when it first happened..it lets the blood bleed out thus minimizing the black nail. it'll still heal if you don't do that but if you're a moron like me and you start to peel the old nail off while the new one is still growing under neath it hurts like a bitch haha

if you look close, you can see where i have already poked 3 holes in it.. some blood came out but now i think their clogged up.

yeah i didn't study the nail sorry :-p

I must have graduated from that moron class because I can go about life as normal and find something every 5 seconds to catch my finger on something. I took a sterile needle and went in between the old and new nail to clean it out a bit, but I just am waiting for the day that I am busting my tail at work and my old nail gets flung off while flinging large bags of french friend into an open cooler door. Sometimes I feel like Alfred E. Newman, "What, me worry?" ...or maybe Tim Allen.

So i went back to the doctor because my finger looked as if it was gonna burst. They used a cauterizing pen (a pen almost like a soldering iron that gets red hot at the tip) and bored a good size hold in my finger nail. As soon as they were in deep enough, out came a spray of blood all over the doctors lab coat lol... The had me sit with my finger in a bowl of sterile water for about 45 mins and just let it bleed and relieve the immense pressure. It feels a LOT better now! They estimate that there was about 3 tablespoons worth of blood under my thumbnail! It still hurts because the bone in the tip of my thumb is spiderweb cracked, but its a lot better than it was without all that pressure.

Update on my "nailtastrophe"...I keep a band-aid covering it all the times now, and change them frequently because they have a tendency to get wet and flimsy and the nail is 99% off I just don't want to pull it off. and have to worry about hot grease popping on it and what not. Nail grows under bandaids right? Any case I read it takes about 6 months for a new fingernail to grow, but since mine was only half...and given my "top-notch" immune system. ..I figure I have a year before I have to take my arm off at the elbow.
