Exclamation 5.2-magnitude earthquake rocks Central Midwest

WEST SALEM, Ill. (AP) - A 5.2-magnitude earthquake centered in southern Illinois rattled homes and skyscrapers across the Midwest this morning, causing little damage but surprising residents unaccustomed to such a powerful temblor.
The quake was 1 of the strongest ever recorded in Illinois and occurred just before 4:37 a.m. southeast of West Salem, Illinois.
The U.S. Geological Survey says two aftershocks during the next three hours measured 2.6 and 2.5.
Fifteen miles away from the epicenter, a woman was trapped in her home by a collapsed porch but was quickly freed and wasn't hurt. And a two-story apartment building was evacuated because of loose and falling bricks.
The quake shook skyscrapers in Chicago's Loop, 230 miles north of the epicenter. It was felt as far away as Georgia and Michigan and caused minor damage in portions of the midwest.

Anyone else feel this this morning?? Cuz i know i sure did....I felt the one at 4:37am and there was an aftershock around 10:14am CDT measuring 4.5 that I felt myself....shook my whole house and knocked down some pictures...fuckin' wild.

Wow!!! Scary!!

Be prepared for some *more* after shocks.... it's even worse if you don't keep that in mind and your nerves are already on high alert.

Thanks for the news!

Yea i kno bout those aftershocks...the last quake recorded that I personally felt was back in 2002...was a 4.3 mag and that was centered around cape girardo, Mo. caused by the new madrid fault. Shit's crazy...this one was caused by the Wabash fault...which i think is a branch off of the new madrid one. I live 150 miles north of salem, Il and i felt that shit. Scary shit ill tell ya. Havent felt one since 10:14am cdt but they're sayin aftershocks all day. will keep yall posted

Geez so ur accustomed to quakes a lil more than me i take it?? It's kinda rare to get them right in the heart of the US. The biggest ever recorded here was the quakes of 1812 and 1813 which was 8.2 i think and it obliterated buildings in chicago and independence, mo...i might haveta research that later....but they say that the new madrid fault is the most seismically active areas east of the rockies...trust me i've literally smoked about an eighth of my green so far since about 10am...its 1:35 here now so yea...i bet that was a ride in that building....ugh....i'd prolly pissed myself no shittin' lol!!
