To rip, I use AnyDVD & DVDShrink, sometimes DVDFab.

To convert, I use WinAvi.

AnyDVD & DVD2One usually rips and compresses in one go for me (same as luv's AnyDVD & DVDShrink)

But I usually prefer to use DVDFab Premium to rip things. Then compress it in a second step if I need to.

For converting avi-to-DVD I almost always use ConvertXtoDVD
WinAvi is a bit faster, but ConvertXtoDVD is far more reliable & comes with all the codecs you need built-in.

If you have downloaded over 2GB and your ratio has dropped below 0.50 you will not be able to download.

Solutions

1) Leave a completed torrent in your client until you have uploaded enough data to bring your ratio up to 0.75
2) Upload a torrent of your own and seed until your ratio is 0.75 or higher.
3) Donate to the site and gain Premium membership

I always run it thru shrink, only very old movies don't require shrinking in this day and age, mostly.

When I use AnyDVD I generally just have it running in the background to remove the protection & let DVD2One compress it to dvd-r size on the fly. Works perfectly almost every time

Saves time, so long as the dvd isn't badly marked/scratched. But if I thought the DVD was damaged at all I'd rip it to the HDD first.

I used to swear by DVDdecrypter for that, till it stopped getting updated

Expanding upon the question, and with the exception of ffmpegX, handbrake and VisualHub, what do people who run a Mac use?
