Question What am I doing wrong?

Apologies for the big screenshots, but I guess no-one here is still on 56k!

I'm getting "Error: access denied, leaching forbidden, you are only allowed to seed" on Adobe CS3 Master Collection for Mac OS X + KG

What's that all about? I read that peerden limits/stops you downloading if you're a leacher and never seed anything etc.... but that's not me!!

Have I got some setting wrong or something (I'm a mac user so it's possible!) - it's just that 3 completed downloads from peerden trackers aren't uploading at-all, but "MacEssentials" (not from peerden) is uploading at 150k...... so is there some special setting I need to do in Transmission so the peerden torrents can upload?

Thanks.

Doesn't look like anything is wrong. Torrents uploaded to other trackers are not counted for you PeerDen ratio. Here are some excerpts from the FAQs...

Downloading Rules
Quote:
Everyone should aim for a 1.00 share ratio, low ratios will result in severe consequences. See FAQ for info on the low ratio group. If you fall in the low ratio group, you will no longer be permitted to download from the tracker, only upload. Keep this in mind when starting on that large torrent.
Why can't I download "leeching forbidden you are only allowed to seed"
Quote:
If you are receiving this tracker error your ratio has dropped below the minimum allowed which is 0.50. If you only download and upload very little your upload/download ratio falls. This only applies when you have downloaded over 2GB of data. To remove this message and enable yourself to download again you have three options:
1) Leave the torrent in your client until you have uploaded enough data to bring your ratio up to .75
2) Upload a torrent of your own and seed until your ratio is .75 or higher
3) Subscribe to Premium Membership

In actual response to your question there is nothing special that you need to do for a completed download to begin seeding but the 3 that you have downloaded (and I see are still there ready to seed back) are quite old torrents and have already had several downloads and have several seeders but there is nobody downloading them at the moment, if/when someone does download them again they will get some back from you providing that you leave it open in your client (which in all honesty could take some time). So in order to remove the leeching forbidden message you will need to take one of the three steps which were mentioned above.

Ah, so just because my general Ratio is 1.33, it doesn't mean my PeerDen ratio is good enough

You're Peerden ratio is .06. That is the only ratio the tracker tracks.

Thanks, I've never made my own torrent before (have just downloaded existing torrents and then seeded them) but is there any way I can copy the MacEssentials torrent (that I'm still downloading) and upload that to Peerden?? <Please don't laugh if that's a really stupid question>

Yes m8 you can do that just make a torrent using transmission (using the guide that I put the link to in my last post then add it to here using the torrent that you create using our tracker here which is :
Code:
http://tracker.peerden.com:2700/announce
, making sure to add enough information - Just make your first post into the testing section and when you get it working a mod will move it for you, if you have any questions feel free to ask along the way, but you should be fine if you are careful to follow the guide (BTW, Xander uses Mac and Transmission too I believe )

And we won't laugh we were all n00bs to uploading once and we understand that everyone needs to learn at some stage, actually it is appreciated that you want to give back.

So will it work fine despite the fact that I've currently only got 11gb of 14gb (downloading from 17 peers @ 30kb)??

no it will not work fine. The file needs to be complete before you can make a torrent for it

Westyfield2 there seems to have been a little misunderstanding there I thought that you meant after you had finished downloading, as jerry said, you can only make a torrent using a complete file, but I am sure that you must have something that you can upload in the mean time to help your ratio issue.

I might add that in addition to the above, you might also have to repack the content obtained elsewhere. By repack, I mean you must do the following:
  1. Extract the content.
  2. Scan for Viral Infection or Worms.
  3. Perform a test installation.
  4. remove any traces, if obtained from another site.
  5. Add the peerden readme.txt file to the directory.
  6. RAR or Zip the contents of the directory (I highly recommend RAR over Zip, which I would be happy to explain offline)
  7. Create a new torrent in Transmission using the guide that Xander has created.
  8. Don't hesitate to ask for help if something confuses you, we all started out just like you.
Learning can be frustrating sometimes, especially something like this that seems to be very complicated, but once you do it a few times, it will be very easy indeed.

One final thought is that if you find something confusing in the various guides, please make notes and suggestions on ways that the guides might be improved upon.

Unfortunately not , I've had a look around and stuff I've downloaded from other sources has already had a version posted here on PeerDen.

Yes, that is the one, though I acutually use a modified version that is easier to read.
