Default Questions: Movies and External Hard Drives

First question:
This is probably a stupid question and I did search first.
I downloaded some movies, the parts in winrar form... the same file names in each, so how do you extract to burn? I know someone posted a question before on this one but I couldnt find it.
how do you split a file in two because burning software says too big for DVD? Dont want to ruin the movie.

Two:
Boyfriend has an external hard drive. He wants to know if the best way to transfer from laptop to external is to copy/paste or drag/drop the wanted files?

Also, when he does the drag and drop, some how it transfers but not all data is transfered. Is that normal?

The external hard drive also does not show thumbnails of the pics he wants/needs to transfer. Is there a way to make it show thumbnails of the pictures? He is knew to the external hard drives just as I am. We have to reformat his laptop and need to make sure all files get transfered without loss.

Sorry for all the questions but I know some of you are more familiar with this stuff than us who are new to it.

Thank you for your replies in advance.

1. If you are using Windows the best way to extract a film from multi-part archives is with WinRar. Here is a link to a cracked copy:-

Code:
http://www.peerden.com/windows-related-direct-downloads/21688-winrar-crystal-2008-v3-7-patch.html
If the film you have downloaded is an XviD or avi then it will only play on your computer OR on a special sort of DVD Player that supports XviD/DivX files. If you have a 'normal' DVD Player that you want to watch the films on you'll need to convert the film to the dvd format. I'd recommend ConvertXtoDVD or WinAvi for that.
Code:
http://www.peerden.com/windows-related-direct-downloads/22490-vso-convertxtodvd-v3-1-3-38d-incl-keygen-brd.html
or
http://www.peerden.com/windows-related/4061-winavi-video-converter-v9-keygen.html
I prefer ConvertXtoDVD for mine, it has a burner that can write to disc for you too.

If you have downloaded DVD-R's they will already be full size DVD's. You just need to burn bothe the Audio_TS & Video_TS folders to disc.

If you have downloaded over 2GB and your ratio has dropped below 0.50 you will not be able to download.

Solutions

1) Leave a completed torrent in your client until you have uploaded enough data to bring your ratio up to 0.75
2) Upload a torrent of your own and seed until your ratio is 0.75 or higher.
3) Donate to the site and gain Premium membership

If you have a film that's too big for one DVD you can either burn it to a Dual-layer disc (if your burner supports them), compress it, or split it. I'd recommend compressing it so you don't need to muck about with changing discs part way through the film.

DVDShrink or DVD2One can compress films in DVD format very quickly and easily. Here's a link to two versions of DVD2One, the thread includes some guides:-
Code:
http://www.peerden.com/windows-related-direct-downloads/6706-dvd2one-portable-versions-1-2-3-v2-1-3-inc-guides.html
As for spliting the DVD across two disc's. That's not something I would normally do & the way I'd do it is probably too fiddly to post. But I've just read about two programs that can do that more simply:-

Code:
CloneDVD http://www.peerden.com/windows-related-direct-downloads/20816-clonedvd-v2-9-1-9-winall-incl-keygen-crd.html
OR
DVDfab Platinum http://www.peerden.com/windows-related-direct-downloads/22429-dvdfab-platinum-v5-0-6-0-final-serial-nogrp.html
I'm sure there are plenty of guides on splitting with these two programs if you google split dvd dvdfab or split dvd clonedvd. But it's not something I'd bother with.

PS. Why are they too big for your media? Are they films you downloaded, or films you ripped from DVD's? Or are they ones you converted from another format?

Posts have been kinda big-ish so here is the hopefully third and final one

2. Enabling thumbnails is easiest.

Right-click the folder for which you want to enable the Thumbnail view, and then click Properties.
Click to select the Enable Thumbnail View check box, and then click OK.

Now when your in the folder Click Thumbnails in the View Menu.

Drag and Drop should work fine for transferring files, maybe the transfer is getting interrupted before they have finished
Are you sure the transfers are completed before you try to access them?

If you are having persistent problems transferring data to your external HDD then maybe a software solution designed to do the job could help?

Try one of the programs from this freeware page:-
Code:
http://www.freeware-guide.com/dir/util/backup.html
They are all very small and reasonably simple. Freebyte Backup looks like it does the job.
