Well managed to recover the 1.3tb of lost data (mp3's & movies + my most important Peerden seed folder.....)

Next stage is to remove the MB so I can take it to my computer supplier for testing as it won't do what the manufacturer say's it will.

When I populate all 4 of my DDRII slots it will only boot when slots 1&2 are populated, but when I remove my new CPU and pop in my old all 4 work perfect. very odd.

All Memory sticks are the same manufacturer and same speed/grade just 2 are 4gb and 2 are 1gb.

I'm very stumped with this little niggle...

but so far the speed is very nice!!!!

Main thing is you got all your data back, wierd how it didn't pick up the ram properly with your new processor though, obviously not the ram if they are picking up with your old one, tbh it stumps me too as I can see no real reason for it.

me niether... the only thing i could imagine it to be that the mobo wants to have 4 banks of 4.

When I spoke with SCAN Computers support they were just as stumped.... cos the mobo manual does say I can have any mix but it not good for performance and shouldn't put 4 gb on a 32bit OS. but seing as i'm running 2003 server that not a problem as that was addressed some time back.

The main bummer is that I have to take the parts to them as parts and not in a system, even tho all the parts in the system has come from SCAN.

ONLY GOD KNOWS how my RAID array got corrupt.

going to keep this as a sticky till the probs sorted then remove it.

Server offline.. Disks still being corrupted..... having to re-install OS.... Think the corruption is being cased by the plug&play manager which started to complain when the the CPU was installed.

Well it's not the OS, I've now lost most of the disk but trying a few disk recovery tools. It looks like the MFT/bootsectors are corrupt... this is like open heart sugery now.. trying to locate backup bootsectors and re-create MFT's.

keeping my figures crossed or all my torrents will be down for some time.

Ok doom, can you go through at some point and remove the ones without any active seeders? I think the biggest one was the disney torrent and hopefully we keep some seeds on it. Just do what ya can.

I've had little bit of luck ATM after a littler brain wave... restored 25% of my peerden folder ATM...... not holding much breath that they will actually be readable.... but the restore program still going to another HDD....

This is the biggest PAIN in the backside I've ever had from a computer, I can understand why people just say F'it..... but my torrents are so important to me and the family here....

The bugger I've just realised... I installed 2008 server X64 but found out some of my important hardware I use on this server isn't compatible, when I've done the restore I have to go back to 2003 Server X86... (must rememberer to put the patch on that allows more than 4gb RAM). ie the printer and scanner so direct laptop connection no good... not compatible with Vista either... but they are still top notch at what they do.... R200 Photo Printer & HP 4470c scanner.
