Marijuana Ingredient May Fight Bacteria
Marijuana may be something of a wonder drug — though perhaps not in the way you might think. Researchers in Italy and Britain have found that the main active ingredient in marijuana — tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC — and related compounds show promise as antibacterial agents, particularly against microbial strains that are already resistant to several classes of drugs. It has been known for decades that Cannabis sativa has antibacterial properties. Experiments in the 1950s tested various marijuana preparations against skin and other infections, but researchers at the time had little understanding of marijuana’s chemical makeup. The current research, by Giovanni Appendino of the University of the Eastern Piedmont and colleagues and published in The Journal of Natural Products, looked at the antibacterial activity of the five most common cannabinoids. All were found effective against several common multi-resistant bacterial strains, although, perhaps understandably, the researchers suggested that the nonpsychotropic cannabinoids might prove more promising for eventual use. The researchers say they don’t know how the cannabinoids work, and whether they would be effective as systemic antibiotics would require much more research and trials. But the compounds may prove useful sooner as a topical agent against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA, to prevent the microbes from colonizing on the skin. Source: Code: Code:

its natural man!! no surprise to me at all. I mean, if the shit can cure glaucoma and other visiual problems what else do ya'll need??
Crack, heroin, Ecstacy, LSD and all those other drugs don't cure jack shit, they kill you. Weed on the other hand hasn't killed anybody, might cause you to do dumb shit if you can't handle it, but you'll never OD!!! YT only makes it illegal cause he can't tax it................................................ .

I doesn't surprize me much either as it has been discoverd to have many 'medicinal' qualities over the years.
If they legalized selling it then it could be taxed because a legal dealer would then become a marijuana retailer then it would become taxable (just like tobacco and alcolhol or any other consumer product)

i've always wondered why weed is illegal. i mean it doesnt have close to the same effect as the other hard drugs. it's on the same level as alcohol in my opinion. nah actually it's got medicinal properties, so it's even better!

I can't lie, I've been paranoid more than a few times............
That feeling and the feeling of breing completely stupid I'd say is the worst I've ever felt smoking trees...... I've since overcome those feelings though, in my opinion its all mental. Overall, there is nothing wrong with weed. There is though if you abuse it

When I was a kid I detested smoking anything. By the time I got my first job I tried my first cigarette, and by my Junior year in H.S I started smoking herb. I actually researched into it before talking myself into it--you know, just in case that first hit caused my head to literally explode all over the place hehe) I'm 25 now, and other than my unfortunate period when I was on probation for 7 months, I have smoked every day, if possible. I enjoy marijuana more than cigarettes. I haven't experienced any long-term negative effects, and my head is still attached.
Some time ago my buddy and I was looking up info on why it began illegal, and we firmly believe that the government went and saw all the money that was being made from marijuana, and saw it as a threat. One of the main guys was Harry Anslinger. The guy was mentally scarred as a child and went on a warpath with anything about drugs, and Marijuana got slid in that category after Harry went and talked til he was blue in the face, hands were numbs from shaking other officials hands, and lips were raw from smooching butts but he finally got propositions and policies enabled. Now we come to 2008...very close to 2009, and there is massive amounts of tests and reports about the pros of marijuana and there are commercials about the cons (never going to the drive-thru again!!) I will roughly estimate that 70-80% of the goverment is in the age range of 60-80 years old, and most of them still have that derranged Anslingers shenanigans in their heads. I figure it will become decriminalized before it becomes legalized, or until those old geezers die off and younger politicians step in and reform alot of old stuck ways to modernize with the times. Anyway, I think I'll end here otherwise I might get accused of rambling. That's just my tw--eer waitaminute, alright where did I put my wallet?

what I was saying at the top of this thread.................. They criminalized it because primarily they couldn't properly tax us on it........
Hence, whatever they can't tax is illegal

its not that they cant tax it properly b/c they tax alcohol but moonshine is still illegal
they reason its not legal is cuz they make more money off it being illegal taxation can't cover what big business contribute to jails and prisons

They can properly tax us on it if they wanted to just the same as they can with tobacco and alcohol, you can legally buy tobacco and alcohol fro licenced retailers payng the relevant taxes or you can illegally buy it (bootleg) without the tax.
Marijuana is just the same if you take a 'leaf' out of amsterdam's book, it is still illegal to be in posession of or deal in the streets, but it is legal to buy it in small quantities (no more than 5 grams per person) from certain 'coffee shops' (but it is illegal for them to openly advertrise that they sell it) you just look out for a marijuana menu. source: Amsterdam Drug Laws - TheSite.org In their plan the authorities have succeeded brilliantly. A flurry of entrepreneurial soft-drug businesses, all taxed and part of the formal economy, have sprung up. The number of "coffee shops" in Amsterdam, for example, has grown to 450, each selling on average $150,000 worth of soft drugs per year. The flashy Bulldog Palace on Leidseplein, the Times Square of Amsterdam, serves food and drinks in a large outdoor cafe. Downstairs you can buy bags of "Haze" and "Skunk" cannabis, tequila-flavored lollipops and Bulldog T shirts at $17 a throw. source: Just say maybe Bottom line is these 'coffee shops' pay taxes on all profits, including but not limited to the profit from marijuana - In fact the Taxes from marijuana and prostitution have made a huge difference to the amount that their government takes in taxes and has in turn helped the country as a whole in many ways.

Even in amsterdam its still limited as demonmonkey says.
You can't legally grow more than two plants or something (although shit loads of ppl do in the netherlands) because the government don't look kindly on you oversupplying yourself, your friends or whoever, whether free of charge or for cash, since those ppl who acquired it from you could've got it from somewhere where tax would've been involved. The uk goverment made a push not too long ago to get cannabis pushed to class B or A as opposed to C, not sure how they got on with that.
