[Mac OS X] How-To Create Torrents and Upload to PeerDen Before You Begin If you are creating a torrent for the first time on PeerDen, please use the Testing Forum and consult the FAQs: Uploading Rules: Quote:
Before you create the .torrent file you need to check a few things. Please remove all references to other sites from the filename/contents and, if you want, add a tag for PeerDen instead. Now we need to make a place to store the files so they can more easily be shared. Make a new folder called 'Torrents' in your 'Downloads' directory. And then inside the Torrent folder make another folder called 'RAW.Torrents'. You will put all of the data that you want to share inside the Torrents folder and all of the newly created .torrent files in the RAW.Torrents folder. ![]() If you have a single file that exceeds 2GB or a large amount of files you must RAR them before you create the torrent. If you do not have a single file that exceeds 2GB you can skip this part, torrents do not need to be RAR'd. Before you create the RAR files, make a New Folder within the Torrents folder you created earlier so they don't just get scattered on your Desktop. Rename the folder according to the filename. To create RAR archives in OS X the easiest way is to use the Freeware application SimplyRAR. Just drag the file(s) into the window. If any of the files exceed the 2GB limitation of the tracker select 'Split archive' and then choose the volume size (I use 102,400,000 bytes). For most files (.MP3, .ISO, .AVI [XviD/DivX], etc.) I also recommend using the 'Store' compression method as these filetypes are already compressed. ![]() Check your settings and click 'Create RAR'. Choose the folder you just created (the one inside your Torrents folder) and type an appropriate filename and click 'Make'. ![]() ![]() ![]() Now that the files are prepared you can configure your torrent client. First I will discuss Transmission, then Azureus. Transmission Open Transmission and access Transmission > Preferences > Network. Check to see that your port is open. If not please follow instructions found on PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall. ![]() Now you should set up the default download directory, this should be the same folder that we created earlier. Go to Transmission > Preferences > Transfers > Adding and change the 'Default download location' to your 'Torrents' folder. Also configure a few other options according to the image below. You should only have the "Display adding transfer options window" box checked. ![]() There are more options in Transmission's preferences to configure, but the next most important option is Transmission > Preferences > Transfers > Management. Uncheck the "Stop seeding at ratio" box so that your torrents will seed forever. Now that these options are set, we can create the .torrent file that you will upload to PeerDen. In Transmission choose File > Create Torrent File. Select the Folder containing the RAR files you created or if you have a single file, select that. Enter the PeerDen Tracker URL: Code:
http://tracker.peerden.com:2700/announce ![]() Finally, click 'Create' and wait for the process to finish. ![]() Now all you need to do is Create a New Thread. There is additional information here: Video Tutorial How To Create and Post a Torrent on PeerDen. Follow the instructions and remember to DOWNLOAD the .torrent from the thread and open that torrent file in Transmission. After you download the .torrent from your newly created thread open that file in Transmission. If you have configured everything according to the instructions above all you need to do is check the "Start when added" box. To be safe, you may want to click the 'Verify Local Data' button. You should see 100% marks for each file. ![]() If not click the 'Change' button and choose the folder that contains your data files, then try again. Finally click 'Add'. Azureus The process is very similar to Transmission. Check your port in Azureus by choosing Help > NAT / Firewall Test. If necessary follow instructions on PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall. Next enable 'Advanced Mode' in Preferences > Mode and click 'Save'. Now go to Preferences > Files and choose the default directory where you want all your files to be downloaded and check the boxes according the the image below. ![]() If you want to suppress VUZE, go to Preferences > Interface > Start and check "Start In Advanced View (AZ 2.x). There are too many options to discuss in full, but please look into the 'View' and other options. To create the .torrent, choose File > New Torrent. Enter the PeerDen Tracker URL: Code:
http://tracker.peerden.com:2700/announce ![]() Click the 'Browse' button and select the Folder containing your RAR files (if Directory) or the file and click 'Choose'. ![]() Click 'Next' and then 'Browse' to select the Folder to save the RAW Torrent file to. Make sure you check the "PRIVATE torrent" box. Finally, click 'Finish'. ![]() Wait for the process to finish. ![]() Now all you need to do is Create a New Thread. There is additional information here: Video Tutorial How To Create and Post a Torrent on PeerDen. Follow the instructions and remember to DOWNLOAD the .torrent from the thread and open that torrent file in Azureus.
