Default [Mac OSX] Creating and Uploading Torrents with Transmission (Video)

Video Tutorial - HERE Video DL - HERE

Hey Guys,

I had a few niggling issues when I tried to post my first thread/torrent that I had made. I found that I could seed torrents I had downloaded but for some reason couldn't seed the ones I had made. In the end it was a silly little thing that was holding me back.

So i decided to build a little on the excellent tutorials that are already in place, for example THIS ONE, which is great, but even following this I still couldn't get it to work.

The problem was that I wasn't pointing the torrent to the path of the file on my HD and then hitting VERIFY LOCAL DATA, so I have put together a quick tutorial which I hope helps. I can't post HTML here so the video tutorial is located HERE.

I hope that you find it useful, it goes a little quickly, but I have outlined the key points, and you can just watch it more than once lol.

Video File Available to Download HERE (5.5M zip)

That's a nice video!

The way I have Transmission configured automates the process a bit. All you do is change the "Default download location" (Transmission > Preferences > Transfers > Adding) to the same location as the torrent data files. This is convenient if you keep all your torrents in the same directory, which is what I do. Also, the verification should happen automatically when you open the torrent in Transmission, just make sure the "Start when added" box is ticked. Alternatively, you can automate this process too. To do this check the "Start transfers when added" box (Transmission > Preferences > Transfers > Adding).

Thank you for the video!

Everyone should aim for a 1.00 share ratio, low ratios will result in severe consequences.

My download path is different to the storage path of the files I seed so that doesn't work for me lol. And I tried to automate the verification of the data for seeding but for some reason I had tracker issues when I tried to use the "start transfers when added" button. So just thought would show the process I had to go through lol.

Any comments and pointers making this process easier are of course welcomed. Thanks for the tips, I think I might try the auto start thing again and see how it goes.

This was a HUGE help to me- exactly what I needed. Now I've just got to wait for someone to download my torrent!

After finally downloading CS3, I wasn't able to let it be uploaded. I thought this was automatic. I will view your video and try to share. Thanks for the help.

In Transmission go to Preferences > Transfers > Management. Uncheck the box next to "Stop seeding at ratio". Should look something like this...

Close the Preferences window and then right-click the torrent and choose "Resume Selected Right Away".

First...thanks!!! Now if I could just find out where the torrent file I created IS. From what I understand (and that ain't much) you have to download the torrent file in Transmission to start the seeding process....but I can't find the torrent file.

Once you upload the torrent file to PD, you download the torrent from the thread you made.

Thanks...OK, found the torrent file and "opened" it with transmission, but now I have an ""unregistered torrent pass" error. Any idea how to fix this?

your torrent is a duplicate anyways, try to find something that is not already shared on the site.
