Thumbs up Tron 2: The New Chapter teaser mp4 cam

Joseph Kosinski has already been tapped to direct Logan's Run and it looks like the commercial director continues to be held in high regard as he is in final negotiations to develop and direct Tron at Disney, described as "the next chapter" of Disney's 1982 cult classic.

"Lost" scribes Eddie Kitsis and Adam Horowitz are writing the script, but no details are being revealed. The original film centered on video game creator Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) who was convinced that his big ideas were being stolen by the company he worked for. While hacking on a company computer, Flynn is brought into an incredible virtual reality where he finds himself pitted against a sentient computer program, the "Master Control Program." Trying to stop the rouge program from taking over the real world as well as cyberspace, Flynn finds himself challenged in a video game world where his real self will perish if he fails. As Flynn fights against the Master Control Program and its henchman Sark (David Warner, Planet of the Apes), he realizes that his best chance to survive rests in finding the legendary computer warrior, "Tron" (Bruce Boxleitner, TV’s "Babylon 5").
Even though story details are being kept quiet you would think that considering Tron upped the ante in terms of visual effects that the same would be attempted with whatever this is being described as (reboot, remake, sequel?). However, one detail that has been rumored is that much like the original, Kosinski has been asked to shoot a test sequence involving the movie's Light Cycles to work out his vision for the movie. I assume it won't be the same as the original considering modern effects, but it would be nice if they had even come up with a different idea outside of the Light Cycles in my opinion.

Disney surprised Con-goers in San Diego on Thursday with debut footage of its highly anticipated sequel to 1982's Tron. The footage began with an update of the popular lightcycle duel from the original film.

A blue figure – obviously on the run – is being tracked down by a yellow figure on a cycle. The blue figure dives forward with a bar in hand. Around the bar – and figure – a super sleek blue lightcycle forms and the chase in on.

The figures are cool updates of the 1982 warriors. Gone are the glowing blue/red/yellow faces, now replaced by helmets with clear facemasks housing what looks like holographs of human faces.

The cycles dip and dodge through a translucent, multi-level track that appears both digital and organic. The blue cycle is forced down a narrow crevasse between two ledges while the yellow bike takes the high road. The blue cycle emerges at the end of the path only to be cut off by the yellow bike's 'laser trail'. The blue bike smashes into a million pieces sending the blue rider flying in slow motion and flipping through the air. He lands and skids to a halt.

All of this activity is being observed from a high, cliff-side structure by a human figure – an older, bearded Kevin Flynn! Played again by Jeff Bridges, a very serene looking Flynn appeared first in a meditative position in the center of a large room. He arises, then walks to the window and peers down onto the action below.

The yellow figure 'retracts' his lightcycle walks over to the downed blue figure... and finishes the job.

The footage ended with a '2' appearing in the traditional Tron font and the TR2N emerging around it. The TRN faded away leaving the 2 alone on the screen again.

Let me just say, I'm really glad that Disney is making this a sequel, rather than a remake.

Check this out....
Tron 2 is slated for release in Disney Digital 3D some time in the Spring of 2011
